“From the NewsCentre in Emberton, this is KBS News at Nine.”

“Good evening, I’m Sarah Raszak.”

“And I’m Matthew Ortega. Our top story tonight: The number of Hockey Canadian refugees setting up camp in northeast Krytenia is now believed to be in excess of five million. The armed forces and border guards in the area have been unable to stem the tide, and are now attempting simply to keep the peace in the camps. Our Quinea correspondent, Jessica Grissom, has filed this report.”

The camera pans on file footage of the Quinneth Plains.

“The Quinneth Plains. A vast expanse of grassland, extending for over three hundred miles between the cities of Quinton and Linford, with only the odd village in between…until three weeks ago.”

Switch to dystopian scenes in Otnorot, Hockey Canada.

“That’s when the Communist government of Hockey Canada collapsed under its own considerable weight, plunging the nation’s economy in ruins and leading to anarchy on the streets. The nation’s armed forces were overwhelmed, and many of the nation’s people were killed in rioting and mob violence in the streets of Otnorot. Those who managed to flee the cities made their way south through the snow, ice, and tundra to the Krytenian border.”

Film of refugees trudging through a blizzard.

“Unfortunately, the days walking in the sub-zero temperatures have taken their toll, with many surviving the carnage in the streets only to succumb to hypothermia or exposure. Ike Raymond lost his wife to the cold the night after they left Otnorot.”

Ike Raymond, a dishevelled, bearded man, appears in front of the camera.

“Poor Shelley, she were never the strongest of girls…(sniff)…she didn’t stand a chance. We wrapped her…(sniff-sniff)…w-we wrapped her in all our spare coats…(sob)…b-but in the morning she was…(blubber)…she was just so cold (wail)!”

The camera pans across the plains again. Large groups of tents and rudimentary dwellings made from scrap metal and wood can be seen.

“The survivors got to the border, where sheer numbers overwhelmed the Krytenian guardsmen who were loath to shoot at them. They have set up rudimentary settlements made from whatever they have been able to salvage, and whatever residents in the region have been able to spare.”

And finally, Jessica in front of a group of dwellings.

The question remains, however: what is the Government going to do with a refugee population the size of a city?”

“Good evening, I’m Sarah Raszak.”

“And I’m Matthew Ortega. Our top story tonight: In response to the refugee crisis in Quinea, the Government has taken the novel approach of building a city and granting citizenship to the estimated six million people currently squatting in makeshift shanties on the Quinnith Plains. Jessica Grissom reports.”

Camera on Jessica.

"The people of what used to be Hockey Canada, currently living in these squalid conditions, are ecstatic tonight. Tomorrow morning, half a mile away from where I stand now, work will begin on one of the greatest public works in history; building a planned community large enough to house over six million. Already, the first signs of a brand new dawn for these hardy souls can be seen; government officials are handing out citizenship request papers for those old enough to work.

"Project Adanac, as the building project is being called, is expected to take a couple of years to be completed even to a basic standard with the current workforce; however it's hoped that many of these refugees will be employed in various roles to help speed up things and get these people housed.

"One thing is for sure, this is a city that will be built on hard graft.

OOC:

We did not go defunct! Just ceased while studying and neglected to go online for a while. Can't you just change it so they're refugees from a freed labour camp or something? I'm still the big, bad communist presence in the region!

(OOC: The idea of this is to evolve a Communist prescence in Krytenia. Would you like to call it a smokescreen? smile.gif)

(OH NOZ!!!! COMMIES!!!

well, ICly, we're not opposed to commies... as long as they don't strap on bomb-vests and start making a mess with this "revolution" nonsense... otherwise, I don't see any reason we should become involved - and perhaps to want to become involved... nuff said...)

“And I’m Matthew Ortega. Our top story tonight: After months of hard work, the Adanac Charter, officially making Adanac a city, has been signed today at the newly-built City Hall. Jessica Grissom is in Adanac. Jessica?”

Camera on Jessica.

"The scale of Project Adanac is astonishing, and just fifteen months after the groundbreaking, the city is popping up all around us. Half of the six million Hockey Canadians who came here have already been housed, and though order has been restored to our northern neighbours, the other half are going nowhere and are instead helping to build even more homes."
