8 Pre MC, Rothecia City, Rothecite Confederacy

"Clop, clop." The horses hooves clicked on the pavement as a carriage rolled by on the street. Passerby stopped to watch, stunned. "It's him," they whispered excitedly. And it was. Michael Leone, the President of the Rothecite Confederacy, dressed in his finest clothes on the way back to the Presidential Palace. He waved and smiled at the citizens of his nation. In an alleyway, a man took out a pistol. He put in one bullet and cocked the gun. "Clop, clop." He waited, barely breathing. "Clop, clop." The carriage rolled down the street. "Bang." The man stepped out and fired. The bullet pierced Leone's earlobe, rolling his head back as blood poured out. The man took off down the street. "Clop, clop." The passerby screamed as their fallen leader hung out of the carriage, dying. "Get him," one said. "Where'd he go?" another asked. The carriage continued down the street. "Clop, clop."

1 Pre MC, Aladon, Kingdom of Melatia

A stately man dressed in a military uniform walked into the room. The room was dominated by a hard-oak table that extended the length of the hall, gold chandeliers hanging down from the ceiling. Delegates were seated all along the table, with aides bustling about. "All rise for His Majesty John William, the King of Melatia," said an aide. The voices stopped and the delegates stood up. The King waved them down with his hand and sat down at the end of the table. Flanked by two Royal Guardsmen in full dress uniform, their bayonets glinting in the sunlight filtering in through the windows, he was an imposing sight, even at his height of 5'8". "What is going on?" the King whispered to a young ambassador. His name was Paul De Milito and he was representing one of the provinces in the Kingdom already held by Melatia. He had a youthful smile and deep blue eyes. "The ambassadors have come to an agreement, Your Majesty. It is tough on the Rothecites, but I believe you will find it most agreeable. They are passing it down to you now." A piece of paper was slowly making its way down the table, with each delegate shuffling it along. It finally reached Paul, and he handed it to the King. "Thank you, ambassador," said the King. He read it slowly.

QUOTE
The Treaty of Aladon

The Kingdom of Melatia represented by His Majesty by the Grace of God John William I, King of Melatia and the Rothecite Confederacy represented by President William Mulvane hereby agree to the following terms:

I. The signatories agree to the cessation of hostilities between the Kingdom of Melatia and the Rothecite Confederacy.
II. The Rothecite Confederacy cedes the lands of Aestia to Melatia.
III. The Rothecite Confederacy agrees to pay 3,000,000 creo in war reparations to His Majesty's Treasury of Melatia.
IV. All Prisoners of War will be released and returned to their native countries.
V. The Rothecite Confederacy will be guaranteed water access to the Channel of Kionta

The King nodded his approval. "Very good," he said. He took a pen and dipped it into the inkwell in front of him. Slowly, he scrawled out his signature above that of the President of the Rothecite Confederacy. The delegates applauded as the King stood up and walked out of the room, back to his private chambers.

O MC, Aladon, The Melatian Empire

The King was seated at a desk. It was hard wood, built from forests deep in the heartland of Melatia. On the desk was a piece of paper and on the paper, the King began to write.

QUOTE
Imperial Edict 001

His Majesty by the Grace of God John William I, King of Melatia hereby decrees the following edict:

I. The land formerly known as the Kingdom of Melatia shall now be known as the Melatian Empire.

II. John William I is proclaimed to be His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of Melatia, and it is by that title that his successors shall be known shall his successors.

He signed it slowly and took out a stamp from his desk, pressing the ink into the paper. He called to his aide, "Frederick!" The aide rushed in. "Yes, Your Majesty?" "Bring this to the Lords. I want this circulated all around the Empire by the end of this week!." Frederick looked at it. "Yes, Your Imperial Majesty." He seemed confused, but he rushed out.

The Emperor sighed and rubbed his temples. It was all his, all of Melatia. "The Melatian Empire shall rise," he thought. "And one day, this moment will be revered by all of my subjects." He rubbed his temples again and stood up, moving on to the next task of his day.

150 MC, Aladon, The Melatian Empire

"And now please rise for the Pledge to the Empire." The Emperor looked out among his subjects. He was a young man, intelligent, with hair still brown and a shining white smile. Behind him was a painting of his great-great-great grandfather His Imperial Majesty John William I, done by David Setters, a fine artist back in the days of the past. The crowd rose. "To the Melatian Empire, which gives me comfort, shelter, food, water, and protection, I pledge my life. To His Imperial Majesty the Emperor, who gives me comfort, shelter, food, water, and protection, I pledge my life." "You may be seated," said the voice over the PA system.

The Emperor rose. It was Empire Day in Melatia, the anniversary of the day John William I issued Imperial Edict 001 creating the Melatian Empire. The Emperor was expected to give a speech and since it was the 150th anniversary, it would be an extra special celebration that would go on all night. But first would be the reading of Imperial Edict 001.

"Imperial Edict 001

His Majesty by the Grace of God John William I, King of Melatia hereby decrees the following edict:

I. The land formerly known as the Kingdom of Melatia shall now be known as the Melatian Empire.

II. John William I is proclaimed to be His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of Melatia, and it is by that title that his successors shall be known."

The Emperor finished reading. He started his speech. "These words, while simple, sparked the dawning of an empire. Our country would not be the same without the moment that happened 150 years ago. Our country is not perfect. But it is good. How do we know this, one may ask? Well see for yourself. Our education is among the best in Atlantian Oceania. Our military, while small, is trained at a premium level. Our medicine is advanced even in our modern world. Our arts and sports are flourishing. An ambassador from another country to this once told me, "Your empire is among the greatest I have seen in my travels, and though it is small, it shall surely rise one day." This ambassador was correct but in one thing. This empire is not mine. It is all of ours. We all share its struggles and its victories, its hardships and its luxuries, its dips and turns. When it sways to one side we get knocked over and when it rights itself, we breathe a sigh of relief. So today on Empire Day, I would like all of you to add a toast to your dinner. Make a toast to us. Thank you."

The crowd applauded wildly. The Emperor waved and went back to his seat. In the background, fireworks went off, awing the crowd. It would be a magnificent day.
