Babylonian Rebels Conspire

Holdouts of the old Xilian city of Babylonia had been quite content with their period of self-rule, until recently. The claiming of old Bablylonian land by Pedriana has caused quite an uproar amongst the fledgling government and people of Old Babylonia. Meetings have been held over the best course of action for the people, and a concrete decision has yet to be met.

Diplomats from the territory have departed for Pedriana to try to come to an agreement over what can be done, but skeptical radicals have already begun organizing and vandalizing Pedrianan shops and homes encroaching Old Babylonian land.

Peace talks continue, but there is not much hope in appeasing these extremists.

[OOC: Heh, all right, I'll bite. wink.gif]

The northern suburbs of Etuskight, Pedriana's seventh largest city, were again attacked by vandals last night. Up until now, little was known about the nature of these people coming from the north in apparent protest of the very existence of the Empire of Pedriana. However, Imperial intelligence has finally learned something from diplomats in Xile, a nation seemingly with connections to the inhabitants of the land.

Apparently, the land of Old Babylonia, which extends down into the northern half of Pedriana*, was once some sort of Xilian dependency, though this link was seemingly dissolved years ago. Left to their own devices, the Old Babylonians lived in peace until the arrival of Pedriana to the Atlantian Oceania region.

Emperor Pedro III is reportedly trying to cooperate with the Old Babylonians in an attempt to make peace, but some of the more extreme inhabitants of the land have chosen not to listen to reason and instead to launch small-scale attacks on northern Pedrianan cities and towns. The Emperor has stated that if peace is not made soon, he will be forced to begin stationing members of Pedriana's army, one of the largest in the region, along the northern border to keep the "infidels" out.

More information as it comes.

[* I'm assuming the land in question is the darkened area at the northern end of the continent that looks like it was a nation at some time in the past.

[OOC: Thanks for the link, Vil. smile.gif]

The Ministry of Cartography and Ice Cream has provided the following informational map regarding this situation:

(Note that the "proposed expansion" is not likely to take place for quite some time, so ignore that for now.)

The land shaded in red is that formerly occupied by Xile, and is the origin of the "marauders", as Emperor Pedro III not-so-kindly classifies them. Note that six of Pedriana's ten largest cities reside within this region.

Old Babylonian "gang" leader Arch Killian smirked as he left the rally. Already the young punks he recruited were running off screaming, preparing to burn down a prominent Pedrianan bank. Regardless of whether they were successful or not in driving out the Pedrianan threat, he would still make himself a force to be reckoned with. He climbed into a black sedan and the driver sped off to catch up with another, more conspicuous entourage.

Diplomats arrived in Pedriana and awaited Pedriana escorts. Arch's car pulled up and he stepped out wearing his best business suit. There was not going to be a meeting without him, the most power, and most prominent figure of Old Babylonia.

Ford watched from the palace window. He saw a car pull up and a snazzily dressed man exit. Assuming that this was the envoy from Old Babylonia, he hastily made his way out the door.

Ford had left the building with a sense of urgency that seemed to clue the visitor in that he was the man he needed to speak to. "Arch Killian of Old Babylonia," the man introduced himself. "And you are...?"

"Ian Ford, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sausage for the Empire of Pedriana. I assume you are here to speak with the Emperor?" Killian nodded. "Very well, please follow me."

Meanwhile...

There seemed to be some sort of tension in the northwest Pedrianan city of Im. As yet, Im had not been the victim of very many Old Babylonian attacks. But this merely served to make the populace more nervous, feeling that their time would come "any day now". Security had been tightened around the government bank in Im to guard against any possible attack.

And sure enough, the attack came. About two hours before sunset on Thursday night, no fewer than a hundred and fifty figures wielding torches were seen coming from the north. Luckily, one Im policeman saw them coming from about a quarter mile off. Gunfire ensued, and a significant number of the attackers were mown down before they could reach the bank. But the remaining Old Babylonians immediately put their torches to the building, and some of the more fevered ones set nearby policemen on fire. The crowd had dispersed before reinforcements could be sent; however, six policemen were killed and over a dozen more injured, and the bank suffered extensive damage due to poor response time by the local fire department.

"When is the Emperor going to do something about this?" commented a random citizen who saw the scene. Unfortunately, he said this within earshot of a policeman, who was forced to arrest him for dissent.

Abattoir would like to offer any assistance it could to curve the hostilities between the groups and the terrorist acts. Many troops are not available at this time as the nation is on high alert in the south cove, but we can lend out what we can if requested.

The Free Republic would respectfully prefer it if a neutral nation were to furnish the peacekeepers. This is not to spite Abattoir, but would ensure that the gesture is not seen as an attempt to drag another nation into the situation in the South Cove.

Just trying to do what we can. Abattoir would glady see another nation step up and lend a hand, who of course was not preoccupied with their troops elsewhere.

Rebel Attacks Intensify

After the Xilian bombing of the recently vacated lands of Krytenia, the Old Babylonian rebels in northern Pedriana took their allies' actions to heart and ramped up their efforts in the Empire to provoke more general chaos in Atlantian Oceania. The eastern suburbs of Chash burned through the night as the Babylonians torched several large buildings, including an elementary school. No deaths were reported, though nine citizens were reportedly injured.

With some of the Emperor's ministers torn as to whether Pedriana should seek war with Xile over their actions in Krytenia, these local troubles only serve to worsen the situation.
