Welcome to the sign-up thread for the First AO Games, hosted in Laurentia, the capital and largest city of Lymantatia.

How to sign-up:
Copy and paste the list of events which is at the bottom of this post. Under each event name, just add the names of the athletes that you wish to participate in that event . Of course, if you don’t wish to have athletes participating in a specific event, just remove the event from your final list. The maximum number of competitors is specified in parentheses after each event, you can send less athletes than the number in parentheses, but not more.

When making your sign-up list, there are events that ask just for “teams” without specifying the number of athletes, such as Handball. On those, you need not write the names of the athletes in the sign-up list, just put the skill modifier of the team. There will be a roster thread created nearer the Opening Ceremony for you to add the names of players of team sports and add any other IC information that you find useful, as the flag-bearer, anthem and other stuff that aren’t part of the sign-up process. For all other events, including those which involve teams with a specified number of athletes, you have to add names. You can also add your nation’s three letter code in your sign-up thread, but I’ll create one for you if you don't.

Please do not "tag" this thread or add a "provisional sign-up"; these posts will be ignored, even if you later edit in a full signup. I also request that you do not edit your original signup once it is made, as changes are likely to be missed. Instead, let me know the changes in a new post, as I intend to update the signup list as I go along. I will pop in a post telling you when I'm about to update signups.

Entries and limits:
The limit of entries for the First Summer AO Games is of 450 entries per nation (500 for the host). If you have entered the Games before, you will notice that this is lower than previous Games. An entry consists of a team or individual participating in one event. An athlete who participates in 3 events will be counted as three entries, at the same way a full team participating in a single event is counted as one entry. Puppets nations are allowed, but with the limit of one, and please state its master nation. In addition, puppet nations will have a lower entry limit of 300 entries. Combined entries count as a single nation.

Skill modifiers:
You can put the skill modifier of your athletes, by adding a number (it must be just after the name of your athlete or team, and preferably in parenthesies. Please turn smilies off when you post, or any numbers ending in an 8 may end up as a guy wearing shades). The skill modifiers are from 0 to 100, from the lowest to highest. 0 probably means the athlete (or team) was called (or organized) without having any proper training or preparation; imagine them as an Eric the Eel. A 100 means that the player is part of an elite group of athletes for the event. So, you can input any number between 0 and 100 - whole numbers only please, 37 is OK but 44.6 is not. Skill modifiers refer to a single entry, and not to a person or a sport. This means that a full Hockey team, for example, has a single skill modifier, at the same time that an athlete competing in multiple events can have one different modifier for each event.

Deadline and Schedule:
Sign-ups are open in this thread until 19:00 EST on September 14, 2012. Please post your delegations before this date. Sign-ups posted after this deadline will not at all be accepted.

The RP thread will be created around one week before the end of sign-ups - that is to say, September 7, 2012.

The Games will begin on September 21, with preliminaries in some events. The actual Opening Ceremony will take place on September 28, and the full official schedule will follow nearer the time.

Please also note the following: the average of all the skill modifiers in your delegation cannot be more than 50, although it can be lower than it. Any list in which the average of skill modifiers end being higher than 50 will have its skill modifiers reduced until it meets the 50 limit. And, finally, entries without a skill modifier will have it set to a default modifier of 50.

Demonstration events
Demonstration events will be held if there are enough competitors and a suitable person and method to scorinate. If you want to nominate one, follow these rules.

No winter sports. We have the Winter AO Games for that.

A list of events within the sport. This may involve a split into men’s and women’s events, a series of distances, or whatever similar categorization is relevant to the sport. Some or all of these events may be consolidated if interest levels are not sufficient to sustain every possible event; you should specify if there are any events that are sufficiently dissimilar that their entrants cannot be funneled into a single event.

A set of results for the sport that can be used to set up the scorinator for it. If the sport is fictitious, either a set of fictitious results will be needed, or a statement that the results are similar enough to some other sport that the same scorination parameters can be used. If results differ for each event within the sport, this requirement must be satisfied for each event. Or, even better, an easily comprehensible and complete process for generating scores for the events.

A brief explanation of the competition format that should be used. This can take the form of a reference to a real-life competition (a link to information should be provided unless the format follows that of an Olympic event), or a detailed explanation if the sport requires some unique format.

The maximum number of individuals or teams that each nation can enter in each event, and, for team events, the size of the team (be reasonable in this one – preferably a max of 3 entries per event).

Who will be scorinating the event, and what credentials they have for doing so. I will not be scorinating any demonstration events myself.

A list of all demonstration sports that have been adequately specified will be kept at the end of this post for convenience, though it may not always be updated. You can (and should) enter athletes in demonstration events at any time, regardless of whether the event has been officially noted or confirmed—the entries will simply be disregarded if the event is not held. In principle, demonstration events adequately specified will be held if at least six nations have entered, and will not count towards your maximum entries.

Not to mention not all events are in the Emberton Olympics.
