AOCAF 63 Host Bid - Siovanija & Teusland

Hosting Experience

Siovanija & Teusland’s hosting experience includes multiple seasons of domestic football and hockey leagues, as well as the 9th Under 18 World Cup (Sporting World Cup), the 14th World Junior Hockey Championship, and has also served as the organizer of the World Junior tournament in recent editions. Under a previous nation (Sicoutimont), the user co-hosted a World Cup of Hockey.

Scorination

For this tournament, xkoranate 0.3.3 using the NSFS formula as well as xkoranate (additive) style mods will be used. Style mods can range from -5 to +5, and may be changed once during the tournament. RP bonus will be cumulative throughout the tournament and applied to the AOCAF rankings.

Format

AOCAF signups in previous editions have greatly ranged in terms of numbers, and I have several formats prepared in the range of 24-48 teams signed up:

24: six groups of four, top 2 in each group + 4 best 3rd placed teams advance
28: seven groups of four, top 2 in each group + 2 best 3rd placed teams advance
30: six groups of five, top 2 in each group + 4 best 3rd placed teams advance
32: eight groups of 4, top 2 in each group advance (this is the most preferred format)
36: 9 groups of 4, top team in each group + 7 best 2nd placed teams advance
40: 8 groups of 5, top 2 in each group advance
48: 8 groups of 6, top 2 in each group advance

In each of these formats, the tournament would be run as a single round robin. Should numbers go below/beyond what is expected, I will provide updates on what alternate formats may be considered as the signup process continues.

Tiebreakers

In order: points, H2H points, H2H goal difference, H2H goals for, goal difference, goals for, wins, coin flip (Rank + RP bonus)

IC Information

The Siovanija & Teusland Football Association is very pleased to be submitting its host bid for the rights to hold AOCAF Cup LXIII in the United Republics. Siovanija & Teusland are a football team that have risen on the world stage, qualifying for each of the last 4 World Cup tournaments, as well as having reached the AOCAF Quarterfinal stage on 3 occasions.

Siovanija & Teusland is a nation of about 75 million in Southwestern Atlantian Oceania. The island nation has a very long history, from the rise of the Teus Empire and its expansion around the multiverse, to the breakaway of the Siovanijan Republic, and the eventual Great War that culminated in national unification and the end to the hundreds of years of enmity between the two nations. While it has not necessarily been a smooth path since then, today, Siovanija & Teusland stands as a strong, proud and free nation.

While the nation kept itself mostly isolated on the world stage, in recent years, the decision has been made to open up more to the world, and part of this has been through sport. Athletes from Siovanija & Teusland have competed at the highest stage in many sports, with the nation being multi-time world champions in ice hockey, and being home to one of the world’s most famous footballers, Thorsten Kramer. The shift away from isolation has, in a political sense, seen the United Republics develop closer ties with regional neighbours and partners.

Which is why, then, the STFA feels the bid to host AOCAF Cup 63 is the perfect storm. The chance to welcome friends we’ve made, and those we haven’t met just yet, to the country as well as serve as the host to perhaps the most difficult football tournament in the world, with many recent World Cup winners hailing from the region as well as 5 AO nations amongst the top 10 in the world rankings, is an incredible opportunity.

If the rights to the tournament are awarded to the STFA, the tournament will take place across the country in both constituent republics. Siovanija, the home of vast lakes and rivers, of plenty of vodka, with people characterized by their charming but rebellious personalities. And also the home of Energija Chernovets, current regional club football champions, and their stadium the Energija-Arena, or the Olimpski-Stadion in Borograd, where you may find yourself for a match. Teusland, once home to a proud seafaring empire, still home of tall mountains and lush forests, with beer on tap in every town and village beer hall, and a people who might seem cold at first, but warm up quickly. Then, in Stelburg, the Nationalstadion, home of plenty of the national team’s finest moments, or the Franz-Gorz-Stadion, home of current IFCF Cup Winners’ Cup holders FC Teussen Stelburg, or the Draistadion in busy St. Jakob. These places, cities and stadiums, make up the soul of football, sport and culture in our country, and we invite all of Atlantian Oceania to join us for a celebration of our region, as well as some friendly competition.

The Siovanija & Teusland Football Association thanks you for considering this bid. If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them here, and I’ll answer them as soon as possible. Thank you again!

We've had co-hosted tourneys the last few editions, which of course was a departure from previous convention. I would support my friend's bid to host alone without reservation. He's put on excellent events that I've participated in (SWC9) and ones I've not been part of.

Of course, I will judge every bid on merit, regardless of my association with a given bidder.

The counterpoint to this is that previous convention included field sizes of 32 or fewer. Signup thread has been open for a few hours and we're already near 32

obviously an excellent point.

I wanted to make clear that just b/c I co-hosted didn't mean I would discriminate on the basis of single/co-host bids.
