(minor spelling complaints: Hiiraan is spelled with two is; Jasīʼyūn and Sokojiʼwa Dosi CK are spelled with apostrophes)

How will the fixtures for the playoffs and knockout round be determined?

For the playoffs, the top five second place squads will be drawn against the next five, with the remaining second-place side out completely.

After that, completely unseeded draws. The only stipulations for the round of 16 draw are that no two second-place sides can face each other, and no two clubs from the same nation can face each other. There will be one more draw after that round, and this quarterfinal draw will not have the aforementioned restrictions. Much like the RL Champions League knockouts.

OOC: Mardom Yek is well known for being the least popular club in top-level West Afghan football. The entire organization is essentially a puppet of the socialist dictatorship government, and for that reason, the team is wealthy and quite competitive, but has an extremely small fan base. (In fact, Mardom Yek is Persian for 'One People,' a typical socialist catchphrase of the ruling Afghan Anarchist Party.) Consequently, this magazine, while pretending to be a popular read, is commonly overflowing on the shelves of newspaper shops, because no one ever buys it. Many controversial, uncalled-for, overconfident things will be spouted by One People, One Newsletter, and none of them are to be taken seriously. It's always a bad sign when your most legitimate journalism comes from your guest columnists - see below.

Translated from Dari by Farid Ali Bariyoj

Football fans of Central Herat, we thank you for reading! You may not believe it, but just a few weeks after our beloved Anarchists stole fourth place from the ugly-orange-wearing Ghavvasa and snatched the West Afghan Cup from the big, stupid, overrated Nine Columns, we have made it into the Atlantian Oceania Champion's League! Our best players will be on show to try and prove to the rest of the world that we are the best team in Western Afghanistan, if not the entire world.

In fact, we at One People, One Newsletter do not believe we will drop a single point in Group A, which we have been drawn into! Our first match will be against the defending Oliverrian champions, CA Ville-Royale, who don't concern us very much, because our Anarchist methods will frighten the French-speakers away! However, the silly bonjour-talkers will be wearing red, forcing us to wear our much less popular blue shirt! Luckily, captain Ruzikhuduq Jun said that he has infinite faith in the political superiority of our government, which will inspire our Anarchists to victory despite our sporting of the far-too-democratic color of blue!

We at One People, One Newsletter, would like to remind you that evading your government-appointed arranged marraige is a crime. Do not spit upon the laurels of our great socialist ways by refusing your assigned domestic partner. Your government knows what is best for you!

And now for our superb guest columnist, former Mardom Yek captain, now playing at Clube Comercial in far-away Cafundeu (whom we don't much approve of because of their consumerist ways), Khilen Fahifa!

Thank you everyone, for reading my article. I will always hold Mardom Yek near to my heart.

Today I want to analyze CA Ville-Royale, our opponents in our first fixture. I believe that we will have a very difficult game on our hands. The defending Oliverrian champions have several players who play on the Oliverrian national team. Of course the first one I take note of is Dominic Webb, their goalkeeper. The veteran allowed just one goal in a rather difficult group 5 at the recent World Cup 35. The other player of note is obviously the playmaker Kevin Carter in the midfield. Though I expect my old friends Jun and Qeshelu will play well in the central midfield, they will have to be at the top of their defensive game in order to stop Carter.

I should say that I expect CA Ville-Royale to win this group, as they are easily the strongest team in the group. As a result, I would be very happy to see my Anarchists grab a draw.

Mr. Fahifa's weak-minded expectations are the reason he isn't playing for Mardom Yek anymore, since we are clearly going to win all three matches in our group! It is only due to the unpatriotic schedule-makers (who are all on the payroll of Nine Columns) that we were not allowed to play all of our matches at WonderField! Luckily, we will be champions anyways!

Sports: Champions League draw promises interesting battles
WESTERN AFGHANISTAN—The draw for the fourth Atlantian Oceania Champions League—the first in which teams from the Unified Capitalizt States have participated—was made today in Western Afghanistan. The forty-four participating teams, six of which are from the UCS, were split into eleven groups of four, from which the group champions and the winners of five playoff matches will advance to the knockout stage.

The group certain to be watched by many Capitalizts is group D, in which Sonoma Center Panthers, which currently tops the Capitalizt SLANI Club Rankings and is the four-time defending TakilQuip Challenge Cup champion, will face a strong challenge from Bettian team Persubarnas, along with Demot’s Skyhaven FC and, from the relatively-unknown Soccer Association of Limbrogidlian Teams in Oliverry, Ennemy City East. “We’ll have to make sure we play a professional match against Skyhaven and Ennemy City, but I think Persubarnas is the only team that can give us a real challenge in the group stage,” said Panthers manager Alejandro Bolúfero.

That group aside, much attention in Paripana will be devoted to group H, in which Capitalizt teams Querzakhi United and Naquada Falls Demons will be joined by nearby New Montreal States side Brasserie Thivierge. Though no one we spoke would care to speculate on the results, it seems certain that enough fans will make the trip to Western Afghanistan to sell out the stands at all three matches. The teams will be joined by Santa Rosa FC from Demot.

In other groups, Lexington FC—the Capitalizt team, not the Limbrogidlian team or the now-defunct Casaran and Okielahoman teams—will play Nojika’s Imperial City, Milchama’s Chaialim, and the hosts’ Nine Stars. The famous Bedistani, and now Capitalizt, club Yuba United will seemingly face little resistance from Keyne Island’s Wolverton Wanderers FC, Usmaniyah United from Hiiraan, or Nine Columns from the host nation, but anything could happen. 소코지와 도시 축구 클럽 (Sokojiʼwa Dosi CK) will have their toughest match so far this season against Apex League champions Butetown Dragons, but a somewhat easier match against oddly-named Bazalonian side Woolgolga Woolyboots should prepare them for the challenge, and a breather against Bletchley City FC from Keyne Island will finish the group stage for them.

Every match of the fourth Atlantian Oceania Champions League will be broadcast live on ATSN or ATMN3, with news updates every day of the tournament on ATMN1.

OOC: I'd just like to tell you that, IRL, only the final is held at neutral field. All other matches are held at the respective home fields. It's just something I want to note, so feel free to run this AOCL the way you want wink.gif

OOC2: Also note that some explicit terms will be used in this RP. But remember: it's a tabloïd, so I guess you know what this means tongue.gif

The Atlantian Oceanian Champions League 4 about to get underway: Previews of our teams

By: Jacques Lepocque

Oliverry is well represented at the AOCL4, as four good teams are going to represent our nation. Sadly, again, no Marshalliston team is going to be present, so no reader from here will care about it, but I'll continue regardless, even though I don't give a -explicitive removed- myself. Let's start our review now:

To start, CA Ville-Royale, champions of the Première Ligue last season. I'd personally say they have an easy group there, as they are going to meet Coral Cove FC, from Nojika, Bosaso Athletics, from Hiiraan and Mardom Yek, from Western Afghanistan. Lately, le Club Athétique has been having some troubles as some things happened that made us try to find what happened with a special reporter, paid ten times as necessary to be sure it finds a lie about them. Anyway, le Club Athlétique is going to top that group easily, as no Capitalizt is going to bribe the referees. But these slani Western Afghans might bribe them, seeing as their puppet club is in our group. We shall see...

Let's continue with the other Première Ligue side, RFC Père-Durant (or RFC Peré-Durant, as the Western Afghan officials claim it is written. (See? another scandal resolved by us!). They have a harder group and might not get through, seeing the strenght of the other teams: Perumnasih, from Bettia, Drago FC, from Bazalonia (We think that they have a dragon in their squad. Idea to the management: Send an overpaid reporter there to try and see if they have one, and pretend that they have one, so that we can continue to hold our reputation of integrity in news) and Revena Ruckus, from Quakmybush. I guess they can come out 2nd from this group, but it will be hard and will be played between them and Revena Ruckus.

Thirdly, let's continue with the Soccer Association of Limbrogidlian Teams sides. Firstly, Ennemy City East, a team that could top its group. Except that there are Capitalizts in their group, so we're going to rule that out, as they can bribe referees. They could finish 2nd though, as Persubanas, from Bettia and Skyhaven FC, from Demot, are not the strongest teams in AO, so they should finish third and fourth. As we told you, the Sonoma Centre (If the West Afghan officials have the power to claim one of our teams' name is spelt in another way than the official way, we can as well do this) Panthers, from the Unified Capitalizt States' Capitalizt SLANI (add an "s" to "Capitalizt" and make "SLANI" into "slani" and you get something Capitalizts do everyday) are going to top their group, thanks to being one of the best squad in the world.

Lastly, what about Love City FC? They have no chances, even though their group is easy. The only good side in that group are the Desert Foxes, from Milchama (which means "war" in Hebrew. That should tell you King David is about to come back to reunite the Jews. Stay tuned). All the other three teams (Love City FC, Pesarast Xanto, from Western Afghanistan and Partizan Drissa, from Hypocria) will fight for 2nd place in the group. That should be interesting, but sadly, Dazza Dallas won't be there, so the Sex part of our tabloïd won't be filled correctly and our readers won't give a -explicitive removed- about what's happening.

Finally, please note that all the games implying Oliverrian teams will be aired on TéléOli and on OBC Television. All other chosen games (one from every day of competition, and that excludes the Oliverrian teams) will be aired on SportsChannel.

Host Announcement

The Most Serene Republic of Western Afghanistan, as well as the Commitee for the Operation of AOCL 4, wish to issue an apology to participating member nations and clubs for the delay the tournament has endured over the last 24 hours. Representatives from the Office of the Secretaries have informed me that there are unconfirmed reports from the Public Infrastructure Sub-Department that there has been a major plumbing problem along the southern border of the nation.

Apparently, a man trying to escape the country (and our wise socialist ways) with his pet alligator were apprehended; clogged in an intake valve within the Rash'qu'shan Water Pipeline running southeast from the border near Owbeh. The defendant (who name is rumoured to be Darius Jackson), and his pet, have been taken back to Herat where they will be cross-examined and reprimanded.

As most of you know, Western Afghanistan is a dry country, and the irrigation systems in our nation's football grounds are very sensitive to any underwatering. Rather than having any of our participants play on a surface slightly more abrasive than gravel, we have restored the irrigation systems and play will resume immediately.

-Ali Hirilashir, Under-Secretary of Sport for the Most Serene Republic

ooc: just want to know if i did a RP since i have no teams playing the next day, would by RP bonus go on to the next day that my team is actully playing? Or do i just wait?

Posted by: Western Afghanistan Jul 9 2007, 01:45 PM
You can do it whenever you want. A bonus for an RP will count for up to three matches (not days) later, so at least in the group stage, it won't matter when you post it. In general, if you post an RP, you will get a bonus. smile.gif

Translated from Dari by Farid Ali Bariyoj

Well, football fans, thanks for your enthusiasm and kind words - without those things we would not be MARDOM YEK! Indeed, were it not for the idiotic calls of one certain Bettian referee, we would have easily defeated CA Ville-Royale in our first match! Unfortunately, the first half of that very match was filled with horrendous offside non-calls and the Oliverrian side managed to score three goals, even though their meager democratic economy prohibits them from reaping the socialist rewards of Mardom Yek, One People!

In fact, in an act of true democratic patriotism, Shenelukhur Qeshelu scored his first goal since his injury last year! His superb talent was rewarded in the 56th minute of our first group stage match when he scored on a great free kick from the upper left edge of the area! His goal proved to CA Ville-Royale that they were lucky to beat us, and the French-talkers walked off the field in shame, though they had the win to nurse their wounds with.

Our next match was against Bosaso Athletics, from the Islamic nation of Hiiraan. While we at One People, One Newsletter are proud to call ourselves Muslims, we turn up our nose at anyone who would even suggest that religion should be part of their government. In fact, we heard that everyone from Hiiraan is required to wear a quilt over their entire bodies all day long! This radical form of the burqa would never be tolerated in Western Afghanistan, where we have legalized public nudity, and we are proud of it!

We at One People, One Newsletter would like to take the time to remind you that both possession and use of mobile phones are felonies. If you want to get brain cancer or crash your automobile, feel free to continue to use your mobile. However, expect the police to protect the Laurels Of Our Socialist Ways by hauling you off to a rehabilitation clinic!

At any rate, Qeshelu continued the restoration of his illustrious career by scoring the only goal of the match against Athletics! Once again, the opposing team only had the referee (who was from Delesa this time) to thank for not being carried off the field on stretchers, they were so outplayed and overwhelmed by our economic productivity.

So with one win and one loss, there is all to play for in the final match of the group stage in the last match, which is against Coral Cove FC, from the nearby nation of Nojika. We are glad to see that the Nojikans do not mess around with all this democracy mumbo-jumbo, and though we know that we must win to advance to a playoff, we know we will have our hands full with any team from Nojika! If only they would go one step further and embrace socialism!

Victory to the Commonwealth Teams!

This event, the first time any team from the Commonwealth has entered, and both teams have been able to move on. The St. Myhre Saints held the top of their group and advanced into the Octofinals. The Rangers then fell behind after a injury to keeper Javier Topper keep him from playing the last 2 games. Topper's strings of injuries has been a huge set back to the youthful success. With the line of injuries the National team might have to look for another keeper, leaving Topper with just the league team, sure to be an upset with the nation. The Rangers came in second, the runner up to the United Commonwealth Football Cup, while the Saints for the past two years have been able to secure the cup. The Montreal Rangers had to fight it out, but in the end, durring the play-offs, the Rangers were able to over come Perumnasih from Bettia, the home of the no-defence players, and it showed. The Rangers put in a early goal must had to fight to the last second for every inch of ground to push the Perumnasih strikers back. At the final whistle, many players just collapsed, on both teams. The Rangers from the hard earned victory that drained all energy, the Perumnasihs from the weight of the defeat. After the game, hands were shaked, players congratulated jersey's swapped and then the two teams headed their separate ways. But not before Javier Topper, the injuried Captain of the Rangers was able to give Peri Busilanta the Ranger Captain band, a sign of respect, an occasion rarely seen out side of Delesa.

And it is worth mentioning, that once again the Delesian fans show that they are one of the best supporters with the greatest attitudes. Even through the Perumnasih were the enemy at the start whistle, when the team started towards their tunnel the team recieved a standing ovation from the Rangers fans dressed in their blue and yellow.

Now the Rangers move on to face the CA Ville Royale from Oliverry, should be a great frog fight, as several of the players on Montreal come from the french island Quebec.

The St. Myhre Saints under the leadership of Michael McShane play against Chaialim from Milchama. You might not reconize the name so let me jolt the memory, this nation invaded another by mistake, a failure in map reading skills, also closer to home, the nation that sent its football team to the first Delesian AOCAF with horses. That resulted in a career ending injury, and in the end a defeat to the Commonwealth United team. McShane was the captain of the national team as well, several other players on the Saints were on the national team. This should be an interesting match up as it is easy to say that the Saint players might be out for blood, Milchama blood and at the same time keeping the eye on the prize of a victory, and a little pay back for that injuried player.

Getting Better?

The Commonwealth is one of two nations, the other being Bettia with Butetown Dragons and Akani Sands that have both teams still in the race for the cup. And as another twist, the Montreal Rangers who finished second in their group, is the only team still in and not from first place finish in their groups. So if that doesn't say anything for Montreal...

Last night the Rangers took the pitch with fury defeating CA Ville Royale 3-1. It wasn't until the second half that all the goals were scored, the first remained a fight for control and short passes at midfield. Both coaches possibly got fed up and told the teams to begin their long game, resulting in several break-aways. Players to score for Montreal were striker #13 Topher Rodolph, center midfielder #11 Owen Wilton and #5 Norbert Tison. The CA Ville Royale goal was scored by Zachary Roberts with a chip over the keeper on a break away. Rolo challenged Roberts, but too soon did he leave the line, for as soon as Rolo was too far out, Roberts took the chance and it payed off. At this point the score was 2-1 and it looked as if the Première Ligue Champions might have a chance in defeating the second place team from the United Commonwealth Football Cup. But Tison was able to capitalize on a free kick 24 meters out, firing a rocket into the bottom left corner in the 82nd minute. At which point hope for a tie and then over time was very very small.

In a different stadium in a different city the St. Myhre Saints defeated Chaialim 2-0, putting another clean sheet to the relatively new keeper, Gene Rolo. The goal scorers for that game were #15 Craig Millard, the opposite to #4 Micheal McShane, who scored the other goal.

Now the Rangers move on to face first place finish Yuba United at Western Afghanistan's Anise-Flavoured Bathroom Fixtures Corporation Field in Quarterfinal C. The Saints move on to face another first place finish Ennemy City East at Shi, Shi, and Khrid Investments Stadium in the Quarterfinal D.

Good Luck and Good Night Commonwealth!

Article by Wadeer Moshadi, Translated by Robert Butler

Though we in Western Afghanistan have been frustrated to watch the most recent Atlantian Oceania Champions League be marred by delays due to security lapses, we have played witness to some remarkable football. The octofinal between Butetown Dragons of Bettia and Sonoma Center Panthers of the Unified Capitalizt States was the most remarkable yet of the tournaments many exciting events. The attention of the West Afghan people has been held steadfast by the participating clubs, and though disappointment was widespread when all of the Most Serene Republic's clubs were offed, they have thrown their support at many of the exciting foreign clubs to grace the pitches over the last few weeks.

Having reached the end of the tournament, two dark horses of sorts will be on show for the final match at the Q'an Coliseum. Desert Foxes of Milchama, who clawed past Butetown Dragons in a quarterfinal, after cruising past Herat club Pesarast Xanto in the group stage, will meet Ennemy City East, the tiny club from Limbrogidlia who have fought tooth and nail (and been the beneficiaries of some good luck in the draws) in escaping a horridly tough group, which contained UCS monsters Panthers, and then beating Great Alexandria, St. Myhre Saints (after a nail-biting penalty shootout), and Yuba United in the knockouts.

The match will have quite a few Milchaman and Limbrogidlian fans in attendance, but it can be assured that they will be joined in support by the thousands of West Afghans who will attend the match. Notable sport personalities Khuhekhezal Muhammad, Assef Rushufi, and Darius Half-Assed Jackson, will be in attendance, and various deals have been made with international television corporations to provide nonstop coverage of the match to fans all over the world.

"It has been a pleasure hosting this tournament, and we are proud to have hosted such a prodigious tournament in our small nation. Thank you to all the fans of Atlantian Oceania," said Under-Secretary of Sport Ali Hirilashir. The people of Western Afghanistan whole heartedly share Mr. Hirilashir's sentiment.
