QUOTE (Sarzonia @ Jun 4 2004, 10:52 AM)
January 1 New Year's Day
March 22 Founder's Day
May 26 Stevie Nicks Day
July 10 President's Day (OOC: since it's my birthday, why not?)
First Monday in September Labor Day
September 11 Rememberance Day
Last Thursday in November Thanksgiving
December 25 Christmas Day

Those are the official holidays when banks, federal offices, schools, etc. are closed. By standard practice, government offices and schools are also closed the day after Thanskgiving and on New Year's Eve. Offices are only open for a half day on Christmas Eve, but stores stay open until midnight by general practice (not a law, but the Sarzonian government adds a small incentive to stores that remain open later.

Sarzonia has just added a new holiday in celebration of its alliances in the international community, with particular homage being given to the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland, which is by far Sarzonia's closest ally. [OOC: Especially since they saved our a$$es against Cam III and pitched in to help in our civil war... and they were first on the scene when I was accused of imposing a blockade.]

Alliance Day will be observed every 25 June and will be a full-fledged federal holiday.

King's Day: Currently 29th of September, the King's birthday (my RL birthday)

Ancestor Day: Currently 8th March, birthday of previous (yet deceased) King.

Freedom Day: 1st August, Coronation of King Falcon I, original Defender of the Free, who overcame the Terri and their tyrannical reign of terror.

Christmas Day: 25th December. As Falcania has no primary religion, this festival is the most consumerised festival Falcania celebrate.

Another Chairman, another change...

Chairman Hessenthaler had decreed that the birthday of the original Chairman, Everton Davis, will dow be deemed Chairman's Day on a permanent basis.

That's December 29.

Following a switch over from the Gregorian calender to the Sorthern Northland version of the Juche Calender, New Years Day now falls on the 1st September and New Years Eve the 31st August.

To account for the loss of the January holiday, a bank holiday will now be held on the third Monday of January.
