Introduction
The island nation of Kinitaria has been an independent state for roughly 300 years, first achieving independence under Bojan I, the first king of the nation. The later Kinitar monarchy would eventually grow out of touch and autocratic, and lasted about 150 years before it would collapse in a wave of popular resentment, leading to the establishment of the Kinitar Republic, a notably enlightened and progressive state, at least for its time period.

The resulting republic was overthrown about 70 years ago by a hostile military occupation which led to Kinitaria becoming a Stalinist dictatorship and police state most notable for the rule of Irin Kučera, the last leader of the Stalinist regime, whose decades-long brutal and tyrannical rule came to an end when he was overthrown and executed 20 years ago. A republican form of government was reinstated but this proved unpopular, tensions flaring between numerous groups including former Stalinists and separatists in the autonomous region of Chyr. The new republic attempted to keep order through military suppression, but the tensions would spark all-out violence not long after, leading to the establishment of the current socialist republic.
